Bill Gates early years and education

William (Bill) Gates was born on 28th October 1955 in Seattle, USA. His father, also called William Gates was an attorney and his mother Mary Gates was a schoolteacher. Bill Gates has two sisters.

It was around the age of 13 at the private Lakeside School that Bill Gates discovered his love of software and began programming computers.

Later on, Bill Gates also spent time studying at the well-known Harvard University in America.

Bill Gates career

It was in 1973 with childhood friend Paul Allen and with a vision that ‘the computer would one day be a valuable tool on every office desktop and in every home' that they began developing software for computers and Microsoft was born.

Microsoft continues to this day to invest in, research and develop the computer world and although Bill Gates is still Microsoft's chairman he also now spends time working on health and education issues at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Bill Gates is also the founder of Corbis, a company developing a resource of visual information such as art and photography from around the world.

Bill Gates has also written a book that shows how computer technology can solve business problems. The book is available in 25 languages in 60 countries and is called ‘Business @ the Speed of Thought'.

Bill Gates married Melinda French Gates in 1994 and they have three children named Jennifer, Rory and Phoebe.
