Press Release

Spring into action – before it’s too late!

Spring has sprung and you have survived another winter, but whilst you’ve been hibernating, the winter weather has been attacking your most valued asset… your home. If you’ve been thinking about an improvement in the form of an extension here’s what to do before the daffodils die and the nights start drawing in again. It’ll come round quickly, so now’s the time to Spring.

When you’re extending your property you have to look at these things: the planning; the aesthetics; whether it’s in keeping with the area; building regulations; and conservation and protected tree issues.

You can’t just build what you want on your own property, which is a good thing – look at this photo of an Edwardian property with plastic windows put in!!

So what next? You have several options.  Call in a designer, such as an architect, building surveyor or interior designer.  The advantage of using a designer is that they can visualise the completed building and use the space to its best advantage.  A drawback that we’ve come across before is that some have limited knowledge of costs – and no-one wants to sell their house to afford the extension!

The other option is you can go to a builder.  The advantage of this is that a builder knows and understands costs; the disadvantage is that he may be too practical with no flare or style or he may delay the process to ensure it coincides with him being free to do the work.  It is certainly not as simple as they make out on the TV programmes! We’d like to write more for you on this, or help with a feature on extensions and living in more space. Please call us to help.
