Apple Computers

We also must of course mention Apple computers, and with them we have to mention Steve Jobs. Jobs, together with the inventor of Apple 1, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne founded Apple computers.

We have picked Apple for very much going their own way and revolutionizing phones, with Smart phones that are, for want of a better term, mini computers.

Who was Steve Jobs?

Steve Jobs was the co-founder of Apple Computer Inc. He sadly died on 5 October 2011.

Steve Jobs early years and education

Steve Jobs was born in San Francisco, USA on 24 Feb 1955. He was adopted by a machinist.

Whilst still in high school and with a love for gadgetry and electronics Steve Jobs whilst working on a school project contacted William Hewlett the co-founder of Hewlett Packard and asked him for parts for his school project. This in turn ended with him being offered an internship at Hewlett-Packard.

It was here Steve Jobs met the engineer Steve Wozniak.

Steve Jobs career

In 1975 Steve Wozniak as a hobby was building a small computer, but Steve Jobs saw further than doing this as a hobby and convinced Wozniak to go into business with him. The Apple venture was started in the garage of Steve Jobs parents home.

Initially it sold mainly to hobbyists allowing them to make enough money to develop their design and in 1977 the first personal computer with colour graphics and a keyboard called the Apple II was introduced. Two years later sales were $200 million.

This all changed by the 1980's with declining sales and after a clash with the Apple board of directors Steve Jobs was ousted in 1983 from the board and after selling his Apple shares he resigned in 1985.

Steve Jobs then started NeXT Computer Co that boasted a host of innovations but the NeXT Computer was too expensive to make the company money.

In 1986 Steve Jobs purchased Pixar Animation Studios. After securing a picture deal with Disney ‘Toy Story' was released in 1995 and was a hit. Pixar went public in 1996 and after the first day trading his share of the company was worth $1 billion!

After Pixar went public Apple bought NeXT and again Steve Jobs was in charge of Apple. After doing a deal with Microsoft agreeing to ‘cooperate on several sales and technology fronts' Apple starting making money again.

Today most people are aware of Apples products such as the Apple iPod, the Apple iPhone and the Apple iPad.

Apple also sells billions of tunes from its online Apple iTunes Store.

Steve Jobs personal life

In 2004 Steve Jobs underwent an operation to remove a cancerous tumour from his pancreas and in January 2011 had a liver transplant. In August 2011 he resigned as CEO and was replaced by Tim Cook. Steve Jobs had four children. Reed Jobs, Lisa Brennan-Jobs, Erin Siena Jobs and Eve Jobs. The computer age owes a lot to Alan Turing (please look at the link below). We are still developing and looking at artificial intelligence.

Steve Jobs passed away on 5th October 2011 after a battle with cancer.
